And just like that we’re days away from the New Year. It seems just as shocking as always that a whole year has come and gone! I look back every year and think of how much has changed, and it always seems to make more sense that time has passed, but when I think back on moments that don’t seem so far gone it’s absolutely crazy to me that we’re this far into the 2000’s.
For example, I can remember the exact moment I graduated high school, walking across the stage and thinking, “This moment is big! Don’t forget it.” and that was in 2012! WHAT? How can I possibly be that old? How is it possible that half my peers are getting married and having kids? That we all have real careers now and our lives are so so different!
So when you hear your parents say how fast time flies, listen to them! They’re right!
I really don’t know what this year is going to bring but I’m more excited for it than ever. Everything is so good right now, and i’m learning to appreciate every little thing and just soak it all up! But like always, I have resolutions for myself. Little things that I need to constantly remind myself of this year. So here goes!
- Don’t be afraid to say “NO”!
Remember the movie Yes Man? Where Jim Carrey starts to have all these good things happen to him because he starts saying yes? Well I’ve been thinking that there is just as much power in the word No. Too often I get myself into commitments that I’m not excited about just because I’m afraid of saying no. So I am officially done agreeing to do anything that I don’t want to do, with people that I don’t want to be around. It might sound harsh, but as the years fly by i’m realizing how important every minute is and I don’t want to waste any!
2. Live without guilt
It’s the year of self love, and I actually feel like I have a pretty healthy amount of love for myself and my body but I still have times where I feel guilty if I miss going to the gym one day or if I eat something that I know isn’t good for me. No more of that! I’m going to continue going to the gym because I love it and I’m going to continue to eat food that is good for my body, but if I want to skip a day, or enjoy a bowl of ice cream I’m going to do it guilt free!
3. Meal Prep
If i’m being honest, this one probably won’t happen. I have every intention of meal prepping every Sunday and I think I’ve made this resolution before, but I just can’t seem to stick to it! However, I did get an Instant Pot for Christmas so I’m going to make a valiant effort to meal prep this year! (seriously!)
4. Save Money
My business is picking up and I’m finally starting to pay myself more and more, and I want to make a habit of saving a certain amount every month! Whether that is saving for projects around the house, a fun trip, and emergency fund, or just the future in general! I have to start saving for anything and everything.
5. Be More Honest
Ok, I’m so excited for this one. I have always been a people pleaser, scared to tell people what I really think because I didn’t want to hurt anyone’s feelings. But that put me in a bad spot, in a spot where people took advantage of me and my business. I had a revelation this year when I came across an issue while ordering new inventory. Long story short, I had to confront a lot of companies, and in order to get what I deserved I had to be a little more bold and just a tad bitchy. I don’t mean that I need to always get my way, but there are times when you have to stand up for yourself and I felt so much power once I finally did that! I got off the phone and my hands were shaking but I did it and I felt this sense of peace knowing that I didn’t just get screwed over. So I’m going to do that in all aspects of my life now, handling situations with grace but not being afraid to demand what’s fair.
I love this outfit because it’s so simple and easy but equally cute! I borrowed these cute shoes from Sarah Peterson (Photographer) and she got them from target for only $10, can you believe that! I bought these jeans from the Gap Outlet for about $15, and this cute sweater will be available in store at S & Co. very soon. So overall, a very inexpensive, but adorable outfit for the season!
